August 4 Election Results On August 4, the residents of Davison cast ballots, as part of a county-wide election, to decide whether to levy a 0.9 mill tax to support operations at the Hurley Medical Center. The proposal was defeated, 31,807-30,920, a thin margin of only 887 votes. The tally of the City ballots was 334-278 in favor of the new tax, making Davison one of only four (of eighteen; the Villages of Gaines, Goodrich, and Otisville were included in the appropriate township counts) communities to support the tax: Flint, Flint Township, and Mt. Morris Township were the other three communities. An analysis of the voting results illustrates a significant disparity of support: the measure passed within the City of Flint with a margin of 77% to 23%, but failed outside of Flint by a 63% to 37% margin. In these difficult economic times, Davison voters are to be commended for supporting an additional tax when it appears the tax is warranted and properly presented.
